Laikipia West Parliamentary Candidate · 2027

Gitonga

I grew up in Karuga, Laikipia West. I have spent the last decade building expertise across Kenya, Rwanda, the UK, and the United States. Now I am coming home to build the constituency I believe in — where every community has a voice and every Kenyan counts.

Kenyan politics is expensive. Your support helps prove that merit and community should be enough to earn a seat. Contribute from anywhere in the world:

About Wamuyu
Wamuyu Gitonga
Born here.
Built for this.

I am a Laikipia West civic leader, youth advocate, and community builder. I am a firm believer in people power, and an ardent advocate for representation that protects the mwananchi and listens to the grassroots. Laikipia West needs a renaissance and together we can build it.

I grew up in Karuga, Igwamiti Ward, right here in Laikipia West. I am currently based in the United States, and I am going home to contest the Laikipia West Member of Parliament seat because I want to see — and be part of — the change that so many in my generation are seeking: accountability, people centred policies, and a parliament that is strong and independent of executive patronage and outside interests.

For the past 15 years, I have been deeply involved in youth and civic leadership, beginning as an alumnus of the Equity Leaders Program under the Equity Group Foundation, where I mentored the inaugural Wings to Fly class in Kenya. That journey grew into global advocacy: I was appointed as one of the first two student representatives on the Talloires Network Steering Committee, representing over 6 million students across more than 400 universities worldwide. I have also represented youth at the UNESCO-UNEVOC Global Forum and co-authored the 2013 Mastercard Foundation report that shaped their Africa youth engagement strategy. Professionally, I have spent the last decade managing development and social programmes across Kenya, Rwanda, the UK, and the US.

Wamuyu Gitonga as a Girl Guide at Igwamiti Secondary School
A promise I have
kept all my life

Here I was as an Igwamiti Secondary School Girl Guide, affirming my Guide's Promise. Where you start does not determine where you are going.

"I promise on my honour that I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people at all times and to obey the Guides law."

This is the foundation of my commitment to serve the people of Laikipia West. I made that promise as a girl in Igwamiti and I have carried it into every room I have ever entered — from Nairobi to Edinburgh, Washington DC to Bonn. Every door I have walked through traces back to Laikipia West.

The Journey
From Laikipia West
to the world — and back

Every room I have sat in, every table I have been invited to, I have carried Laikipia West with me. Here is a glimpse of that journey.

Why I Am Running
A generation
demanding change

I am running because I want to see and be part of the change that many in my generation are seeking. Kenya deserves accountability, people centred policies, and a strong parliament that operates free of executive patronage and the interference of other powerful interests. The enforcement of checks and balances is not a technicality — it is the foundation of a functioning democracy.

As a young person who has had the opportunity to learn and build experience across a wide range of international development issues, I am going home to contribute what I have gained to the development of my country and specifically to the constituency that raised me.

I understand this constituency deeply. I know what it means to come from a community where the Maa-speaking, Turkana, and Kalenjin people have long felt unheard. My campaign rests on a simple conviction: a legislator who only speaks for some of their people has not truly earned the seat.

I did not decide to run because politics called me. I decided because policy is where I can make the most meaningful contribution to the people of Laikipia West — and I am ready.

Our Vision
What we will
build together

Laikipia West deserves representation that shapes national policy, champions every community, and turns local potential into real, lasting development.

Policy That Works For Us

I will bring a decade of policy expertise to the National Assembly — scrutinising budgets, shaping legislation, and ensuring that the interests of Laikipia West are heard where decisions are actually made.

Inclusive Representation

Our constituency is cosmopolitan. The Maa-speaking, Turkana, and Kalenjin communities have long been marginalised. Every ward, every community, every voice will have a seat at the table in my tenure.

Youth and Economic Opportunity

I will connect Laikipia West's young people to education, skills, and economic pathways — drawing on the global networks and the career in development that I have spent 15 years building.
